The era shall be careful not to blame Facebook for systemic and structural deficiencies in the era. Some may argue that if Facebook was the social media during WW2 and WW1 or during the Civil War and other disastrous calamities, it should have been blamed for all cruelties in human history. Blaming a media or medium for the manifestation of world events is like ignoring the basic fundamentals that social media is a functionality of the system, it’s legality, it’s culture, it’s traditions, it’s values, its history, its ideology, its philosophy, it’s belief system or being. Facebook is an effect and not the course. It might be a symptom and not the virus or cancer. It’s a miror for society to self reflect. It manifest what society is hiding in the dark or lying to itself that everything is OK. To blame Facebook or punish this American corporation, the people must self reflect and remember their time, posts, chats, engagements, or positive contributions in making themselves or society better. You must remember that if it’s not Facebook today, it will be something else tomorrow. Those who hate or seek to divide or tear will switch to different media or medium – unless the structural and institutional infrastructure of the system changes. Help this company to be better. Don’t tear it down. Don’t punish creativity, or stifle innovation. Brand your brand better. Make better. Bring in a new position humanitarian and public accountability vision. Don’t be aloof. Be there.
